How to: Downsize your stuff

by - 6:36 PM

I know some of my friends actually read my blog so I am free to say this:

As some of you know, I made an account on Shopee since I re-organized my closet and decided to do a massive closet sale. *By the way, there are still a few items left so go check that out!*

I realized I actually have some stuff that I have not worn or used at all, some that I only ever worn once or twice and some that I actually will never ever wear again. I admit, that's the consequence of being a shopaholic and impulse buying a lot. GUILTY AS CHARGED! I can also say that I've learned from my mistakes and as part of the learning process, I jotted down a few tips to help me become a smart shopper (watch out for this in my upcoming blog posts).

(All photos in this blog post are grabbed from google)

Anyways, back to this blog post. I actually decided to blog about three simple steps that helped me minimize my stuff. It also helps having an OCD/OCPD since we are always looking for ways to re-organize anything until we are fully satisfied (which only lasts for a short period of time so it's a never ending process, really). So here is a list of three simple steps that helped me A LOT in down-sizing my stuff:

Step # 1: DE-CLUTTER/BE ORGANIZED
Since I am well aware that not everyone has OCD/OCPD, I have made this step applicable for the general population (and it was also how I arrived to this decision because I realized I didn't put back some clothes to the proper clothing arrangement I always follow which bothered me so much btw, I know, it's the worst LOL).

If you have finally come to realize that your stuff (clothes, bags, etc) are creating a huge pile of clutter then it is high time to have an epiphany! Wake up and clean up your mess! We must remember that ladies are built to be cleaning machines (feminists, don't come at me) one role that comes along with many other roles of course, and not resort to barbaric characteristics such as: being YOLO and shoving or throwing anything anywhere. That is literally. the. worst. Believe me, if you think artistic minds need the clutter then I DISAGREE to the nth power. I know some people who are very creative but I know too that they keep their space clean, fresh and conducive for expressing their creativity. It's okay to create a mess or to be messy, just always remember to clean up afterwards.

Step # 2: GET RID OF WHAT YOU DON'T NEED
Some people are actually sentimental and others are just unproductive hoarders like me, so it's always a struggle to let go and give away the stuff that you've been keeping or hoarding for years. Although, if you had that EPIPHANY (see above), finally noticing that some things aren't useful to you anymore and you realize it's actually just helping the clutter army, then it is high time to be productive! You can decide on throwing some stuff away, giving them to your siblings, to anyone or to charity, or selling them to gain profit. I suggest that the fastest way to sell anything and everything nowadays is via online. You can use either facebook, instagram, blogs or use legit selling apps like Shopee and Duriana. If you know any more ways to get rid of these things, then it's high time to go do it. You'll see how rewarding it feels afterwards. Trust me.

Step # 3: MAINTAIN MINIMALISM
Alas, you are clutter-free! Now this third and final step doesn't mean that you have to maintain a BASIC GRIND, like what is trending nowadays. *For those of you who didn't know, having a basic style is actually wearing and having nothing but neutral colors like black, white and gray. This style is adopted now by some people most especially since it is influenced by style bloggers all over the world. To add up to the definition, being basic also means having to comply to minimalism in a way, and as a final requirement, your instragram feed must be clean, minimal and should have one theme aka (as what teenagers like to call it) "GOALS".*

We are getting further apart the topic but anyways, by maintaining minimalism, I meant maintaining the attitude of only needing stuff that you actually know you'll wear/use. If it makes it easier, continue being smart forever: smart buying, smart and stylish, smart and savvy -Just SMART. It doesn't mean you only have to keep the basics although it would really help if you keep staple pieces (which are a closet must-haves to being a bad-ass stylish and savvy individual and is also about my upcoming blog post) and throw in some colors here and there -just NEVER overdo the hoarding. I would say it really helped me a lot and has finally instilled this feeling of satisfaction inside my [OCPD] mind. No one is perfect but we all have to start somewhere, right?

I hope this post will help some of you and inspire you to begin your journey of being a smart and savvy with a mix of being a stylish individual. This is not only applicable to girls or women out there since I'm pretty sure boys need all the help too (key word: clutter).

I'd also like to throw out a little disclaimer: I wasn't paid to do this blog post by Shopee and Duriana or any of the other social media mediums mentioned. Just thought these are actually useful inventions that need more exposure and because we need it, DUH. So let's take advantage of the convenience that the 21st century has to offer. Also, credits to the owner of the photos. When I'm done saving up for a DSLR I will definitely and shamelessly post snaps. *winkwink*

Til' my next blog post! Hope you enjoy this one,

Love,
