FALL - WINTER 2017 FAVORITES: MOM JEANS

by - 12:54 AM

The Spring and Summer season finally bid Australia Adieu. Despite the weather still getting confused of whether it wants to be hot & humid / cold & breezy, I decided it's high time to create a Fall - Winter look-book. Speaking of look-books, I made an account and thought if you guys are interested to see details of my look, this is the place to go: click me.

Sorry for getting sidetracked. LOL. As I was saying, this blog post encompasses 4 looks that are potential cold season staples. The major staple being the mom jeans that you will see in each look. That's actually where the inspiration sprouted after I acquired these jeans. I'm not really a pant/jean-type of person because I rather wear one pieces rather than separates. Unfortunately, dresses, playsuits and jumpsuits aren't appropriate for the cold weather in Brisbane so I had to invest on a good pair of non-resticting and comfortable long bottoms thus after much deliberation, I bought mom jeans.

For those who aren't really into fashion but still clicked on this post, here's a little fun fact for you:
Mom Jeans is a term for a type of woman's jeans popularised in the 1980s which are considered to be unfashionable and unflattering to the wearer. It went out of trend in the early 2000s but are now obviously back and better than ever. Fashion bloggers all over the world got into the hype a few years back (I know, I'm very late) and made it more fashionable and a bit more flattering to the eyes.

The term is honestly hilarious but a bit bothersome. All our moms definitely owned and rocked these jeans. However, I'm not into the idea of people calling this supposedly unflattering jeans the "mom jeans". It depicts a representation that just because you embrace motherhood, you forget to tend to your physical needs, IMO. It sucks because moms are always fabulous no matter what.

I promise I'm putting a stop to all this word vomit. So ladies, moms and gents, enjoy this Fall - Winter 2017 lookbook:

Look # 1:

This look totally says I'm chill while still looking fashionable. I thought the jeans looked big and bulky so I paired it with a fitted and cropped top. It didn't stop there because I knew something was missing. I could pull that look alone on daytime during Fall but definitely not at night time. I added the blush dressy coat and block heels to the look so it can be more versatile and can easily be transitioned into a day-to-night look. Staple accessories such as a bag and sunnies a must as well for me especially for day-time so I threw it all in. It's effortlessly fashionable and comfortable while still looking sharp and sexy. Not to mention I can rock this look on the early days of Winter as well.

Fun fact: I had a friend (who knew fashion like the back of his hand) when I was living in a dormitory in my Uni and he told me that shoulder pads make a woman look more powerful and strong given the structure it creates for a top or an outwear. I had to mention this as I've mentioned sharp as an adjective in my previous look. I don't know if it's visible but my coat has shoulder pads in it. Just saying! :p

Look # 2:

First and foremost, please excuse the unflattering fit of the heels on my foot. I wasn't paying attention to how I tied the shoes given that my friend and I were rushing to do this shoot. Lame excuse but if we had behind the scenes pictures, you would understand the struggle. LOL.

For this look, I decided to go minimal but also pop on some colour as a statement piece. However, I think the black bell sleeves provides all the statement you need. I love this blouse given that the fabric is a bit polyester and a bit cotton as well thus making it the perfect top for when it gets colder. I love the fact that it can be easily tucked in the jeans and them viola! It creates a very effortless yet put-together look. The shoes also accompany the bell-sleeves in saying "take me seriously even if I'm trying to be fashionable". As you can see, I really adore this look as it depicts a more mature side of me.

Look # 3:

Need I say a lot? This look is the underwhelmed avant-garde side of me. LOL. Yes, that's how much I can push myself. I know some people might find this look a little bit tacky and basic given that I'm wearing a somewhat lingerie looking top and a somewhat thick fabric that can pass up as a coat but not really. Well here's my justification, I do think the top is lingerie-looking however it is one of the most powerful and sexiest top I've ever owned - EVER and no, it's not a top it's a one-piece. I felt that I had to mute down the sexiness and provocative nature that this top has so I paired it with this bottom and my serious-looking-semi-corporate shoes. I also wore this type of outerwear given the weather conditions that day so I can survive under the heat. LOL. Kidding aside, I know I can get away with this look for Fall during the night for dinner or drinks and for Winter, a good pair of black suede ankle boots and a black wool coat would be the way to go.

Look # 4:

This last and final look is fit for the late days of Fall and for the daytime on Winter. I can still wear this for the nights-out during Winter but with again, black suede ankle boots (my favourite) and a black wool coat (because coats always make outfits look dressier). It's probably the safest look I put up as I've only paired the jeans with a staple wardrobe piece but still stuck with the whole fitted top look as I think that's more flattering for these type of bottoms. I did pair it up with my crisscross / lacey block heels to add a little more edge to the whole look.

AND IT ENDS! I hope you guys enjoyed my second attempt on making a season look-book for this blog.

ALSO A BIG FAT THANK YOU to my lovely friend NIZZA TAMBIS for helping me with this blog post. She was tirelessly my MUA, PHOTOGRAPHER AND ASSISTANT. She also has a Youtube channel and posts quality video so check it out here: click me. Kudos to you gurl! x

DISCLAIMER!!! Please read:

⌑ I do live in Brisbane so even if you're a reader from Australia please do consider that the different states yet cities' weather conditions differ a lot from each other. However, I still do hope I have inspired you to pre-plan looks that can make you feel confident and comfortable while hustling through the cold season or wherever you are in the world. You go own it!

⌑ I'm well aware I refer to the looks I put together as fashionable even if you don't think so. HAHAHAHA! I think I have to disclaim that I do think fashion for me is pulling myself out of the usual, day-to-day pieces I wear. Simply put, coming out my comfort zone. Fashion for me also involves the whole concept of comfort. So anything I think that passes up as stylish or unique pieces whilst still being a 10 out of 10 in terms of wearability and movement is right up my alley. That will always be my style and I'll never go overboard with it. There are many fashion ideals and interpretations but I'll always stick to mine cause that's what matters at the end of the day. Be you, hun!

Love,
